Busan International Comedy Festival Returns for 13th Laugh-Out-Loud Year

Asia’s biggest comedy event, the Busan International Comedy Festival, returns from August 29 to September 7, featuring Korea’s top comedians and international acts.

South Korea Gears Up for 10 Days of Global Comedy Mayhem

Comedians Shin Yoon-seung and Cho Soo-yeon appeared at the press conference for the 13th Busan International Comedy Festival (BICF), held on July 1 at Stanford Hotel Seoul in Mapo-gu.

The BICF—Asia’s first and largest international comedy festival—is back from August 29 to September 7. The city of Busan, especially around the vibrant Haeundae district, will transform into a comedy hotspot, hosting performances from Korean stars and international acts alike.

What to Expect at This Year’s Festival

This year’s lineup promises a dynamic mix of old-school legends, trending creators, and global comedy artists. The festival kicks off on August 29 with a glittering opening ceremony at BEXCO Auditorium, followed by ten days of packed performances.

Fans can look forward to punchlines and performances from beloved comedians like Kim Junho, Lee Hong-ryeol, Ahn Young-mi, and more, who’ve helped shape Korea’s comedy scene. Digital creators and overseas comedians will also bring fresh laughs and cross-cultural punchlines to the stage.

Star-Studded Press Conference Sets the Stage

In addition to Shin Yoon-seung and Cho Soo-yeon, the conference featured a who’s who of Korean comedy: Lee Hong-ryeol, Festival Chair Kim Junho, Byun Ki-soo, Song Young-gil, Lee Sang-ho, Lee Sang-min, and many more.

“There’s something magical about performing live in front of an audience who’s just there to laugh,” said veteran comedian Kim Junho. “Busan becomes one giant comedy stage.”

Why It Matters

The BICF isn’t just a laugh fest—it’s a cultural exchange through comedy. Much like the Edinburgh Fringe but with more soju jokes and fewer bagpipes, it highlights South Korea’s growing role as a hub for global humor.

For those craving more than dramas and idols, this annual comedy bonanza proves that Hallyu isn’t just about K-pop and K-dramas—it’s also about cracking up the world.

Ready to LOL in Busan?

Mark your calendars. Whether you’re into sitcom-style sketches, sharp satire, or off-the-wall slapstick, there’s a laugh waiting for you at BICF 2024.
