Ahn Youngmi Brings the Laughs to Busan Comedy Fest Press Event

Comedienne Ahn Youngmi joins comedic legends at the press conference for the 13th Busan International Comedy Festival, set to return this August with a star-studded global lineup.

A Global Stage for Laughter Returns to Busan

Korea’s biggest comedy celebration is back—and it’s going bigger than ever. On July 1, comedian Ahn Youngmi attended the media briefing for the 13th Busan International Comedy Festival (BICF) at Stanford Hotel in Seoul’s Mapo district. The annual event has drawn international attention as Asia’s largest—and first—comedy festival.

When, Where, and Why You Should Care

From August 29 to September 7, BICF will transform Busan’s famed Haeundae district into a comedy lover’s paradise. Opening at BEXCO Auditorium, this year’s fest promises a more dazzling lineup than ever, featuring top-notch Korean comedians, fresh-faced creators, and chuckle masters from around the world. Basically, it’s the K-pop concert of the comedy world.

Stars Aligning for the Silliest Show on Earth

Joining Ahn Youngmi at the press conference were some of Korea’s most recognized funny folks, including Lee Hongryeol, Kim Junho (who’s also the festival’s Executive Committee Chairman), Byun Kisoo, Song Younggil, Lee Sangho, Lee Sangmin, Shin Yoonseung, and Jo Suyeon. They shared insights and behind-the-scenes tidbits about the festival’s direction, growth, and global flair.

Why 2024’s ‘BuCoFe’ Is One to Watch

The local nickname ‘BuCoFe’ (short for Busan Comedy Festival) is getting serious international buzz this year, thanks to its ever-evolving format. Think viral creators on stage, multilingual sketches, and maybe even some improv madness. With Korea’s soft power in full swing (looking at you, Hallyu), even its comedy scene is set to go worldwide. 💥

Ready to LOL IRL?

If you’ve only known Korean comedy through variety shows like Running Man or Infinite Challenge, here’s your chance to see it live and louder. From slapstick to satire, the BICF might just open your eyes—and sides—to how hilarious Korean humor can be across borders.

Keep those dates saved. Busan’s ready to laugh—are you?
