13th Busan Comedy Fest Kicks Off August 29 in Haeundae
Korea’s biggest comedy celebration is back—and it’s bringing the laughs worldwide. The 13th Busan International Comedy Festival (BICF) is set to run from August 29 to September 7, lighting up various venues in Busan’s Haeundae district with a packed schedule of comedy acts from Korea and beyond.
Star Comedians and Global Laugh-Makers Unite
At a press conference held on July 1 at Stanford Hotel Seoul, comedian Shin Yunseung joined fellow comedy legends like Lee Hongryeol, Kim Junho (who is also the festival’s executive chairman), Byeon Gisu, Ahn Youngmi, Song Yeonggil, Lee Sangho, Lee Sangmin, and Jo Suyeon. They unveiled the festival’s plans and shared their excitement for what’s ahead.
Started in 2013, BICF has made waves as Asia’s first and largest international comedy festival. This year’s event opens at BEXCO Auditorium with a glitzy ceremony and features everything from classic Korean comedy stylings to viral creators and international performers. Think stand-up, sketch, and off-the-wall improv—all under one comedic umbrella.
Why This Festival Matters
While K-pop and K-dramas dominate Hallyu headlines, Korean comedy is quietly building its own wave—and BICF is a cornerstone. Over the past decade, the festival has showcased Korean comedic talent to the world and welcomed acts from countries like Canada, Japan, and France, creating a truly global laugh-fest.
Got plans late August? Might want to pencil in a Busan trip if you need a good laugh (or ten).
A Festival That’s All About Feel-Good Vibes
“We want to make people laugh, no matter where they’re from,” said one organizer. Given the star-studded lineup, diverse formats, and that signature Korean energy—mission accomplished.
Whether you’re into slapstick or satire, the 2024 BICF promises to be a hilarious highlight of the Korean cultural calendar. Just don’t forget your funny bone.
