(G)I-DLE’s Yuqi has made a highly anticipated return with her new digital single ‘Radio (Dum-Dum).’ Released today at 6 PM KST on various streaming platforms, this self-composed track showcases her unique hip-hop R&B style.
According to Cube Entertainment, ‘Radio (Dum-Dum)’ is a medium-tempo boom bap song with rhythmic acoustic guitar and a strong bassline. The lyrics use a radio metaphor to express emotions after a breakup. Yuqi’s rich low-pitched voice and trendy melody further solidify her signature musical style.
The track was first introduced during (G)I-DLE’s ‘2024 WORLD TOUR [iDOL] IN SEOUL’ last year and gained attention through a special clip release. Despite not having an official release at the time, the song was featured in advertisements and received overwhelming love from listeners, heightening excitement for its official debut.
Yuqi expressed her gratitude, saying, “Even before the song’s official release, it received so much love, and I’m truly thankful.” She also shared the inspiration behind the track: “I was listening to a hip-hop beat and imagined a scene with people in a Y2K-style setting listening to the radio.” She explained that the ‘Dum-Dum’ melody in the chorus was designed to sound like a radio broadcast.
The song’s promotional content includes a special clip and behind-the-scenes recording videos. Notably, the special clip, shot in Los Angeles, was directed by JIMMY and completed in just one day. “Despite the tight schedule, I’m so grateful that it turned out amazing,” Yuqi shared.
Regarding the song’s highlight moments, Yuqi emphasized, “The catchy melody and my husky low notes are key points.” She also revealed that she wrote this track after releasing her first solo mini-album ‘YUQ1,’ adding, “If I had written this song earlier, it might have competed for the title track.”
Yuqi wrapped up with a message to her fans: “I’m sorry for the wait, but I want you to know how much effort we put into this. Now that the official audio is out, please listen to it a lot!”
