Idols vs. Trot: Hallyu Divas Face Off
As of 6:19 PM on August 22, K-pop and trot fans have been clashing in real-time voting for the Netizen Awards’ Female Artist category. While trot singers dominate the leaderboard, K-pop idols like LE SSERAFIM’s Kazuha, TWICE’s Tzuyu, and BLACKPINK’s Jisoo are making their presence known.
Kazuha Breaks Through the Trot Wall
Kazuha is currently in 4th place with 8,839 votes—about 9.7% of total votes. That might not sound like No.1 material, but among idol singers, she’s the undisputed front-runner. Despite trot music’s heavy influence in the rankings, Kazuha’s strong showing underlines the growing strength and loyalty of younger K-pop fanbases.
Jisoo and Tzuyu Trail Behind
On the flip side, K-pop superstars with massive global fandoms—Tzuyu from TWICE and Jisoo from BLACKPINK—find themselves in the lower half of the rankings. Tzuyu holds 19th place with just 17 votes, while Jisoo is one step behind in 20th with 15 votes. It’s a surprising outcome considering both are internationally celebrated Hallyu icons.
Trot Rules the Charts, But For How Long?
The top three spots are currently owned by trot singers: Jeong Seo-joo (31,990 votes, 35.2%), My Jin (17,127 votes, 18.9%), and Bin Ye-seo (14,591 votes, 16.1%). In this trot-heavy environment, Kazuha’s near-10K vote count reveals that K-pop fans aren’t giving up without a fight.
Will the idol camp rally and shake up the rankings before the end of the month? Kazuha’s rise suggests it’s possible. But unless Tzuyu and Jisoo pick up steam soon, this round may belong to the powerhouse vocals of trot.
What’s Next?
With fan voting still ongoing, the August Netizen Awards remain anyone’s game. One thing’s for sure: whether you’re clapping to trot or streaming K-pop, the fandom passion is real.
