Park Bo-gum to Star as a Barber in New Variety Show

Park Bo-gum is reportedly returning to television in a unique reality show where he takes on the role of a barber in rural Korea. Fans are buzzing about his surprise transformation—and those real-life haircutting skills he picked up during his military days.

The Heartthrob Takes Scissors Into His Own Hands

Park Bo-gum might be best known for his heart-fluttering roles in K-dramas and his boy-next-door charm—but in his next project, he may just be trimming bangs and shaving beards. According to industry insiders on April 16, the actor is in talks to star in a new variety show on tvN where he’ll play a rather unexpected role: a countryside barber.

More Than Just Role Play—He’s Actually Certified

This isn’t just for laughs. During his military service in the Korean Navy’s music and honor guard unit back in 2020, Park Bo-gum earned an actual national barber’s license. Yes—he wasn’t just slicing through scripts; he was literally snipping hair. Fellow soldier Ahn Tae-gyu from Dragon Pony once shared that he even got his haircut from Bo-gum himself.

A Healing Shop for the Elderly

While nothing has been officially titled, reports suggest the show will revolve around opening a small rural barbershop catering to senior citizens. It’s part makeover, part heartwarming community show, where Bo-gum will connect with elderly clients through stories, laughter—and maybe a little style refresh.

Bo-gum’s Versatile Comeback Year

2024 is already shaping up to be a busy one for the beloved star. From Netflix’s My Name Is Loh Kiwan (Otsukaresama in Japan), to JTBC’s action youth drama Good Boy, to his musical hosting gig on KBS 2TV’s The Seasons: Park Bo-gum’s Cantabile—the man’s been booked and busy.

Fans are especially excited about this upcoming variety series, welcoming the rare chance to see a more unscripted, down-to-earth Bo-gum. One fan joked on X (formerly Twitter), “Only Park Bo-gum can turn a rural barbershop into prime-time television.” Honestly? They’re not wrong.

The Magic of Everyday Moments

This isn’t the first K-star to step into everyday professions for reality TV (shoutout to IU’s Hotel del Luna-inspired Hyori’s Homestay vibes), but Park Bo-gum adds his clean-cut flair and real credentials. tvN has not announced a formal release date or title, but anticipation is already buzzing. Whether he’s cutting hair or cutting through emotional walls, Bo-gum seems ready to charm all over again—clipper in hand.
