Sparking ‘HYPE VIBES’ With a Throwback Twist

SEVENTEEN’s powerhouse duo S.COUPS and Mingyu are turning up the nostalgia—and the vibes—in their first-ever unit release, ‘HYPE VIBES’. On June 16, Pledis Entertainment dropped six teaser videos for the upcoming mini album, giving fans a taste of its genre-hopping soundscape and cinematic visuals.

A Retro Love Song Reimagined

The highlight? Their interpretation of Roy Orbison’s ‘Oh, Pretty Woman’—yep, the one made iconic by the 1990 rom-com starring Julia Roberts and Richard Gere. The duo didn’t just cover the song; they gave it a full 2024 makeover using interpolation, a technique where you build new music inspired by parts of an old hit. Roy’s 1964 classic, which sold over 7 million copies back in the day, now gets a modern, K-pop-infused revival.

Six Samplers, Six Moods

The teasers are nothing short of a visual buffet:

  • Surf scenes with breezy melodies show off the duo’s chill, everyday vibe.
  • A twilight guitar solo against a sunset backs S.COUPS in a moment of reflection.
  • Moonlit pools and rising EDM rhythms give Mingyu his own dramatic spotlight.
  • A hypnotic flute loop leads one track straight into earworm territory.
  • Club-ready beats in the final teaser scream “this belongs on your summer party playlist.”

The visuals? Golden-hour glows, moon-drenched beaches, and a dreamy aesthetic that feels like a Pinterest board come to life.

#AllTheFeels in Hashtag Form

The duo has also rolled out a creative hashtag campaign to match each track’s mood: from #HOMIES_NOW to #PARTY_NOW to the swoon-worthy #CRUSH_NOW. Each tag paints a snapshot of a moment in time—something fans can instantly relate to.

Hands-On Artistry

S.COUPS and Mingyu didn’t just lend their vocals—they got in the production trenches, co-writing and co-composing every track. The title song, ‘5, 4, 3 (Pretty woman),’ even features American R&B newcomer Lay Bankz for an added layer of flair.

When’s It All Dropping?

  • Highlight medley: June 22
  • MV teasers: June 25 and 26
  • Full release: June 29 at 6PM KST

With ‘HYPE VIBES,’ S.COUPS and Mingyu are offering more than songs. They’re serving moments—of love, energy, reflection, and full-on hype.
