When K-pop Comedy Gets Too Real
Leave it to SUPER JUNIOR’s Kim Heechul to turn a fake lawsuit into a full-blown online debate. In a recent video on his YouTube channel, the idol-turned-variety king got candid about a string of viral moments, from a playful “lawsuit” against fellow member Donghae to rumors about a falling-out with a long-time friend. And in classic Heechul fashion? He defused it all—laughing, joking, and throwing some unexpected love bombs.
The Donghae “Lawsuit” That Went Global
If you saw signs at a Hong Kong concert asking, “Did you really sue Donghae?”—yes, it all started with Heechul. Earlier this year, he posted a fake legal document naming Donghae as the ‘defendant’ and himself as the ‘world star’ plaintiff. The parody paper was loaded with signature Heechul flair—down to naming a fictional law firm called “Utterly Fabulous Star Entertainment.” Fans, predictably, ate it up.
“Even international fans joined in the fun,” said Heechul, smiling in his video. “I spotted signs at concerts overseas referencing the lawsuit. It was hilarious.”
That is, until some took it a bit too seriously. “I genuinely didn’t expect people to take it that far,” he admitted, noting that a few fans accused him of making light of legal systems. A little dramatic, no?
Breaking the “Chungju Man” Scandal
Another clip that sparked gossip was from the variety show Knowing Bros (Ask Us Anything), where Heechul joked about cutting ties with a long-time friend—public servant Kim Sung-tae, aka “Chungju Man.” Fans worried the friendship had ended.
Heechul cleared it up fast: “We still text. Nothing’s changed. I only phrased it that way on the show to get a laugh,” he said. “A world where jokes need disclaimers just to breathe? No thank you.”
Heechul on Roasts: “I Like Being Teased”
While some celebs might dread being the butt of a joke, Heechul thrives in it. He explained that he genuinely enjoys being teased on shows like Knowing Bros, especially by variety veterans like Kang Ho-dong and Seo Jang-hoon.
“If no one’s willing to be the target, comedy falls flat,” he said. “Without someone being teased, no one gets to shine. And honestly? I love that role.”
Member Bonds Are VERY Real
Between mock lawsuits and variety chaos, Heechul made it clear that the heart of SUPER JUNIOR is still pulsing strong. “I adore when the members tease me,” he said. “That kind of give-and-take makes variety fun, and fans can feel our chemistry is real.”
Of course, he saved the sweetest moment for the end—talking about Eunhyuk (real name: Lee Hyuk-jae), whom he called “so adorable.” He even said, “Hyukjae, I love you.” Classic Heechul, tossing in the confession like a rom-com plot twist.
Fan Love and a Final Laugh
Fans couldn’t get enough of the rollercoaster. Comments on the video said, “I thought this was all about Hyukjae—turns out that was the punchline!” and “Heechul’s comic timing is undefeated.”
From faux legal action to heartfelt shoutouts, Heechul proves once again: he’s the K-pop king of chaos—with heart.
