[CBC News] K-pop sensation BTS has added yet another song to its half-a-billion club on the world’s biggest music streaming platform, Spotify. Their 2020 track “ON” has officially surpassed 500 million streams as of June 6.
Another Milestone for ‘MAP OF THE SOUL: 7’
“ON,” the title track of BTS’s fourth studio album MAP OF THE SOUL: 7, released in February 2020, has become the group’s 16th song to break the 500 million-stream mark. Known for its high-energy sound and raw emotion, “ON” reflects BTS’s journey and mindset as artists seven years after debut.
Global Chart Success
Upon its release, “ON” made waves internationally, debuting at No. 4 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 and No. 21 on the UK Official Singles Chart. The album MAP OF THE SOUL: 7 topped both the Billboard 200 and the UK’s Official Albums Chart—solidifying BTS’s global appeal.
Spotify Dominance Continues
BTS’s Spotify journey is paved with records. With mega-hits like “Dynamite” (over 2 billion streams), as well as “My Universe,” “Butter,” and “Boy With Luv (feat. Halsey)” each surpassing 1 billion plays, the group has now amassed 127 songs with over 100 million streams. Of these, 16 have racked up more than 500 million plays.
“We sing in Korean, but music transcends language,” said RM of BTS in a past interview—perfectly explaining their worldwide popularity.
With more fans streaming their music every day, BTS continues to prove that language is no barrier to global success.
What’s Next for BTS?
Though currently focusing on solo activities and with some members fulfilling their military duties, BTS’s music continues to resonate across the globe. With achievements like this, the legacy of BTS as global superstars shows no signs of slowing down.
