Key Visits Grandparents’ Grave on ‘Home Alone’

On the June 19 episode of Home Alone (also known as I Live Alone), SHINee’s Key took viewers on an emotional journey to the National Yeongcheon Memorial Park, where his grandfather and grandmother are buried. His visit wasn’t just about paying respects—it was a personal moment of reflection.

A Birthday He Couldn’t Celebrate

“My birthday is in September,” Key shared on the show, “and that’s also the day my grandmother passed away.” She died unexpectedly after he became an adult, leaving him devastated for years. “For two or three years, I couldn’t even stand the sight of a cake,” he confessed. “I wasn’t physically sick, but emotionally, I was wrecked.”

From Pain to Peace

Despite the initial heartbreak, Key eventually found a way to transform grief into remembrance. “I was really down during that time,” he said. “But then I thought, ‘Would grandma want to see me like this?’ I began to reflect on the happy memories instead, and my birthday started to take on a different meaning.”

Fans Show Support for Key’s Vulnerability

Fans applauded Key’s candidness, praising his emotional maturity and openness. “Key always reminds us it’s okay to be human, even as a star,” one fan tweeted. The moment struck a chord with many who’ve wrestled with grief during special occasions.

Why It Resonates

In Korean culture, family bonds run deep, and grandparents often play a major role in raising children. Key’s story resonates not just because he’s an idol, but because the pain—and healing—he shared is universally human.
