Wanna One reunion? Ong Seongwu says yes—but not yet

On a recent episode of MBC’s Radio Star, Ong Seongwu brought fans to the edge of their seats when he expressed serious interest in reuniting with Wanna One. The only issue? The military clock is still ticking.

“I’d love to do it right now,” he said candidly. “But some members are still serving in the military or about to enlist.”

That means we might not see a full-scale reunion concert for a few more years. Still, don’t lose hope. Ong added, “Even if it’s not immediate, we can meet again anytime.” At least the door is wide open.

A walk down ‘Produce 101’ memory lane

During the show’s nostalgia-heavy episode titled “The Guilty Humans ZIP,” Ong was joined by guests like Lee Seokhoon of SG WANNABE and solo artist WOODZ (Cho Seungyoun). While reminiscing about his Produce 101 days, Ong had the room cracking up.

“I didn’t adapt well at first,” he confessed. “There were middle schoolers around me and I remember doing ‘bbuing bbuing’ for the first time.” (FYI: bbuing bbuing is a famous cutesy aegyo move in K-pop.)

He recalled nervously asking fans to give him candy with the line, “Dear national producers, please accept this candy,” feeling completely out of his element.

“Other trainees were nailing their adorable lines—like the classic ‘save this moment in your heart.’ I wasn’t sure I could do it,” Ong said, laughing. “And then suddenly, I had become the king of aegyo!”

The awkward ‘freestyle’ dance comeback

Ong didn’t hold back on humor. He even recreated a freestyle dance he first performed eight years ago—on the spot and with zero shame.

When asked why, he nodded to SG WANNABE’s Lee Seokhoon, who was a vocal trainer on Produce 101. “He once told me, ‘You’re a guy but this is oddly exciting,’” Ong quipped, mimicking the old routine to roaring laughter.

So, when is the reunion actually happening?

Let’s get real. A full Wanna One concert is still some time away. Ong listed off members like Kang Daniel, AB6IX’s Lee Daehwi, and Park Jihoon, who are tied up with military obligations.

“We’ll probably have to wait a few years,” Ong admitted. “It’s not impossible—it’s just a matter of timing.”

Also, he made Shin Yeeun cry—accidentally

In a surprising heart-to-heart, Ong shared a touching moment from the set of “More Than Friends”, where he grew close to actress Shin Yeeun. The two filmed together in Jeju Island for over a month and became fast friends—maybe a little too close.

“We bicker a lot,” he said. “One time during a meal, we were arguing and I said, ‘That’s it, let’s stop talking.’ She burst into tears and I panicked like, ‘Why are you crying? I’m sorry!’”

He revealed that they’re still close, but he learned a lesson. “She told me, ‘I don’t mind arguing, but don’t cut me off mid-sentence. That’s worse.’ That really stuck with me.” He added, genuinely, “I felt really bad. I let my emotions get ahead of my manners.”

Final thoughts: Patience, Wannables

While a reunion isn’t around the corner, Ong’s emotional honesty and endless charm prove that the spirit of Wanna One is still alive—and waiting. Until then, fans can relive the nostalgia and hold onto that promise: It’s not goodbye. Just see you later.
