Netflix’s Global Medical Thriller Might Be Back for More
Fans craving more surgical suspense from The Trauma Code might be in luck. On May 23, reports suggested that Netflix is planning to film both Season 2 and Season 3 of the hit K-drama simultaneously, with cameras set to roll by next summer.
But before you scrub in, here’s the catch—Netflix isn’t ready to make it official just yet. A company rep told Korean media outlet Newsen, “We are considering production for a sequel to The Trauma Code, but nothing is confirmed.”
The K-Drama That Cut Straight Into Global Charts
The first season of The Trauma Code dropped in January and swiftly became a chart-topping hit. Centered on Baek Gang-hyuk (played by Ju Ji-hoon), a brilliant trauma surgeon and military veteran, the series follows his high-stakes mission to resuscitate a failing trauma center at a prestigious university hospital.
If that sounds like Grey’s Anatomy meets Descendants of the Sun, you’re not far off. With gripping ER moments and cold-blooded hospital politics, the show dominated Netflix’s global non-English TV rankings just two weeks after its premiere.
Award Season Triple Crown? Check.
The buzz wasn’t just global—it was golden. Ju Ji-hoon nabbed Best Actor in a TV category at the 61st Baeksang Arts Awards, while co-star Joo Young-woo walked away with Best New Actor at the 4th Blue Dragon Series Awards. The cherry on top? The show clinched Best Drama in the same ceremony.
It didn’t stop there. The series also took home the Best K-Drama award at the 20th Seoul Drama Awards, cementing its status as one of the most critically acclaimed Korean dramas of the year.
Season 2? It Was in the Script All Along
This isn’t the first time a follow-up has been teased. Series creator Lee Nak-jun previously hinted that he had Season 2—and even Season 3—in mind while penning the original script. Looks like that early ambition could pay off soon.
So… Is It a Green Light or Code Blue?
With filming rumors swirling and cast accolades stacking up, all signs point toward a return. Just don’t expect a release date yet—Netflix is keeping things under wraps for now. But one thing’s clear: if The Trauma Code makes a comeback, it’ll be one of the most anticipated medical K-dramas in recent memory.
