Yugyeom Becomes GOT7’s Third Member to Enlist

Time to cue the bittersweet playlist—GOT7’s Yugyeom officially enlisted for his mandatory military service on September 29. That makes him the third member of the group to serve, following Jinyoung and JAY B.

Specialist Soldier and Army Band Assignment

According to his label AOMG, Yugyeom was recently accepted as a ‘specialist soldier’ by the Korean Military Manpower Administration—essentially a position where one with music-related skills can serve in performance units. After basic training, he will join the Republic of Korea Army’s military band, where he’ll fuse national duty and musical talent.

No Flashy Send-Off, Just Gratitude

In classic low-key style, neither the date nor location of Yugyeom’s enlistment was made public to avoid crowding. The agency asked fans to refrain from visiting the site and confirmed that no special event would be held.

‘Think of Me When the Moon Rises’

Yugyeom personally addressed his fans, affectionately known as Ahgase (short for ‘IGOT7’), via a handwritten letter on Instagram. “Just wanted to let you know first,” he began. “I’ll serve healthily and come back safely. Remember me when you see the moon in the sky. If you miss me, listen to my songs and think of me.”

He closed with a promise: “A year and a half may feel long or short depending on how we spend it. I’ll spend it meaningfully so it feels short. I’ll come back with a great album and show you how much I’ve grown. I love you, Ahgase!”

Elite Company in the Army Band

Fans were also surprised to learn Yugyeom will be serving alongside some familiar faces, including ASTRO’s Cha Eunwoo, iKON’s Donghyuk, THE BOYZ’s Sangyeon, NCT’s Jaehyun, and actor-singer Kim Wooseok. Not a bad lineup for a military music group.

What’s Next?

As Ahgase bid farewell (for now), many are already wondering what kind of music Yugyeom will cook up after 18 months of life in boots and brass instruments. One thing’s for sure: his return is sure to be met with loud cheers—and maybe a mini concert in the barracks before that.
