Who’s Involved and What Happened?

More K-pop drama just dropped—and no, it’s not a comeback teaser. On May 28, a video made the rounds on Chinese social media platform Weibo, showing two men and one woman hanging out in what looked like a karaoke room. The woman smokes, one of the men pats her head, and Internet sleuths quickly claimed the blurry figures were VERIVERY’s Kangmin and KISS OF LIFE’s Julie.

The Internet Slides Into Detective Mode

Fans zoomed, enhanced, and dissected the clip like it was part of a K-drama cliffhanger. Some were convinced they matched Kangmin and Julie’s profiles.

But not everyone’s buying it. Others dismissed it as just another baseless netizen theory. Still, the speculation exploded across online forums, TikTok, and K-pop Twitter (or X, depending on your vibe).

Agency Clapbacks

Jellyfish Entertainment, Kangmin’s label, was not here for the gossip. In an official statement released on May 29, the company called the rumors “completely groundless” and brushed them off as “malicious false information that damages the artist’s reputation.”

They weren’t shy about laying down the law either. “We will take strong legal action without leniency,” they warned, promising to crack down on rumor-mongers across platforms.

Meanwhile, Julie’s agency, S2 Entertainment, kept things more chill (and vague): “We can’t comment on her private life.” Classic no-confirmation, no-denial response.

From BOYS PLANET 2 to Damage Control

The timing couldn’t be more intense for Kangmin. Just days before the rumor broke, he made it to the final round of Mnet’s BOYS PLANET 2 (a.k.a. the second season of the K-pop survival show). Though he placed 9th and missed the debut spot, he gained new fans worldwide thanks to his charisma onstage.

And now? He’s trending again—for all the wrong reasons.

What’s the Takeaway?

In the hyperspeed reality of fandom culture, even a blurry karaoke clip can spark full-blown controversy. While both agencies have drawn the line with statements, the bigger takeaway might be how closely idols live under the spotlight—and under the microscope of social media.

Are these rumors signal noise or something more? For now, fans will have to wait for the next official move (or—more realistically—the next viral clip).
