Cha Eunwoo Steals the Show from the Army—Literally

ASTRO's Cha Eunwoo made a surprise video appearance at the production briefing for the film 'First Ride,' despite currently serving in the military. His co-star Kang Haneul praised his visuals, jokingly saying he'd watch a two-hour movie of just Eunwoo's face.

Cha Eunwoo drops in on ‘First Ride’ event… without even being there

Even when he’s in the military, Cha Eunwoo can’t help but command attention. On September 25, the production briefing for upcoming comedy film First Ride was held at CGV Yongsan I’Park Mall in Seoul. Directed by Nam Daejoon, the film stars Kang Haneul, Kim Youngkwang, Kang Youngseok, and former Secret member Song Ji-eun (credited here as Sona).

Although currently enlisted in the military band since July, Eunwoo made a surprise appearance via video—and practically stole the spotlight.

‘The prettiest face in the movie’ according to Kang Haneul

In the video message, Eunwoo dished out heartfelt praise for his castmates. “I’ve liked Haneul-sunbae [a respectful term for a senior] for a long time—I even went to watch one of his plays,” he said. “On set, he was bright and welcoming. The first to say ‘hello’ when I was in makeup. He was like a hyung [older brother], a friend, and a sunbae all in one.”

He also reminisced about past experiences with Kim Youngkwang: “We shot Law of the Jungle together when I was 20. He’s a hyung I can talk to easily and share things with.” As for Kang Youngseok, Eunwoo added, “He’s funny, playful, and throws out so many jokes—it was just a fun time being with the four of us.”

Kang Haneul couldn’t help but playfully gush once Eunwoo’s message ended. “He’s so handsome—it’s ridiculous. Honestly, we might as well make a two-hour movie of just Eunwoo’s face,” he quipped, sparking laughter in the room.

‘First Ride’: Bromance, laughs, and a room-dwelling DJ

First Ride follows five longtime friends on their first overseas trip together—and let’s just say no one in this group is ‘normal.’ Kang Haneul plays Taejoon, the obsessive type who never lets go. Kim Youngkwang is Dojin, a go-getter with zero filters. Cha Eunwoo takes on the role of Youngmin, a “room DJ” chasing big EDM dreams while being completely unaware of how striking he looks.

Kang Youngseok is Geumbok, a quirky guy who literally sleeps with his eyes open (he’s been training for that). And Sona plays Oksim, the lovable bulldozer type who’s aiming for Seoul National University—and also happens to be head-over-heels for Taejoon.

This offbeat squad has been tight for 24 years, and now they’re finally stepping out of Korea—and fully into chaos. First Ride hits theaters in Korea on October 29.

Can Cha Eunwoo be outshined—even from the barracks?

If early reactions are any hint, probably not. Even in uniform, Eunwoo’s presence looms large—through a screen, no less. With the cast’s chemistry sparking buzz and the promise of full-throttle laughs, First Ride is one bromantic ride we’re excited to hop on.
