Behind-the-Scenes Bonding on ‘Eun-jung and Sang-yeon’

It’s not just onscreen where sparks fly. Kim Go-eun and Park Jihyun, the stars of Netflix’s new K-drama ‘Eun-jung and Sang-yeon’, recently opened up about their deep connection formed during the project—one rooted in admiration, emotional vulnerability, and mutual trust.

The duo graced the pages of ELLE Korea with a striking photoshoot capturing their nuanced chemistry: just enough similarity to make it eerie, just enough difference to keep things interesting.

From Fan to Co-Star: A Dream Come True

Park Jihyun didn’t hold back when talking about her excitement over working with Kim Go-eun. “I’ve been a huge fan since ‘Yumi’s Cells’,” she admitted. “Even though I’m usually not shy, when I first saw her on set, I completely froze.”

Kim, picking up the story, said with a grin, “I remember talking to Jihyun casually, but she seemed embarrassed at first. I thought she was a bit cold—but turns out, she’s just super focused. She’s such a sensitive and thoughtful actress.”

More Than a Drama—A Reflection on Friendship

The series ‘Eun-jung and Sang-yeon’ tracks a bittersweet relationship from teenage years through middle age. Go-eun reflects on its unexpected overlap with another friendship-focused film she worked on: ‘Love in the Big City’. “It was a year where friendship seemed to find me,” she shared. “Those emotions really seeped into my performances.”

Park Jihyun on Playing Sang-yeon

As for her role, Jihyun described playing Sang-yeon like navigating a maze of emotions. “When people clash, it’s rarely because one person is ‘evil.’ Often, it’s just layers of misunderstanding,” she said. “That ripple effect—like the butterfly effect—was essential to this story. To me, it felt more like a real relationship documentary than a drama.”

The Mutual Respect is Real

Both stars exchanged heartfelt messages post-filming. Go-eun said, “This story is about accepting each other fully. I’m genuinely glad Jihyun was Sang-yeon. Working with such a talented partner gave me confidence.”

Not to be outdone, Jihyun responded tearfully, “Just seeing you made me cry. You were the perfect Eun-jung. Seriously, you’re good at everything!”
