Park Bo-gum Steps Up for a Heartfelt Challenge

On June 14, beloved actor Park Bo-gum took to social media with an icy surprise—he officially joined the 2025 Ice Bucket Challenge, a global campaign aimed at raising awareness and support for ALS (also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease). His participation came after being nominated by senior actor Song, continuing the chain of cold-hearted goodwill.

“Let’s Keep the Spirit Alive”

In the video, Park appears in a simple black T-shirt, standing solemnly before delivering a heartfelt message. “I support the continued, stable operation of South Korea’s first Lou Gehrig’s Disease Care Hospital, made possible by so many warm-hearted people,” he says, before nominating three familiar names to carry the icy baton next.

Keeping It in the Acting Family

Park nominated Go Kyung-pyo, Heo Sung-tae, and Tae Won-seok—actors he’s shared the screen with in past dramas. Go Kyung-pyo co-starred with him in the nostalgic hit Reply 1988, while Heo Sung-tae and Tae Won-seok appeared alongside him in Good Boy, a recent action series from JTBC.

After passing the torch, Park gracefully took on the challenge himself, showering himself in a bucket of ice water—a symbolic and literal show of support. (Spoiler: he nailed the dramatic splash.)

The Ice Bucket Challenge: More Than a Viral Stunt

Originally going viral in 2014, the Ice Bucket Challenge is more than just a social media trend. Participants either douse themselves with ice water or donate to ALS-related causes—preferably both. This year, the 2025 Korean reboot aims to support the operation of the country’s first dedicated ALS hospital.

Busy Year for Park Bo-gum

Aside from making waves with cold water, Park has had a hot year. He starred in Netflix’s healing drama Thank You For Your Hard Work and JTBC’s Good Boy. Fans also recently said goodbye to him as the host of KBS 2TV’s music talk show The Seasons: Park Bo-gum’s Cantabile.

Whether he’s melting hearts onscreen or taking one for the team in near-freezing temps, Park Bo-gum proves once again he’s more than just a pretty face—he’s a force of kindness with star power to spare.
