Rowoon to Join the Military in October After ‘The Matchmakers’ Premiere

SF9 member and rising actor Rowoon is gearing up for military enlistment—but before that, he’s got one last mission: promoting his new historical action K-drama, The Matchmakers (original title: “Dakyum”).

“It Was Actually a Good Thing”

At the press conference held on the 23rd at the ELIENA Hotel in Seoul, Rowoon opened up about his delayed military service, saying, “I was originally scheduled to enlist in July, but due to a reevaluation I was pushed back. Looking back, I think it worked out for the better.”

He explained that the delay allowed him to attend the Busan International Film Festival for the first time—an experience he had only dreamed of until now. “Watching it through clips and pictures would’ve made me jealous,” he laughed. “As an actor, it’s my responsibility to promote the work I’ve done. I’m grateful that I got to stand behind The Matchmakers before enlisting.”

Promotions First, Camouflage Later

Rowoon will enlist as an active-duty soldier on October 27. His original evaluation in July required a reexamination, leading to the updated enlistment date. His new series The Matchmakers is set to premiere September 26 on Disney+, with two episodes dropping each week for a total of nine episodes.

Set in the bustling city of Gyeonggang—where wealth and power converge—the show features characters each chasing different dreams amid a chaotic, survivalist world. Expect drama, danger, and a fair share of destiny.

What’s Next for Rowoon?

The 27-year-old idol-actor shows no signs of slowing down, even as he prepares for duty. “I love acting, so I don’t think I’ll take a break,” Rowoon said. Veteran actor Park Ji-hwan even teased, “I promised to send him lots of books, so he better return smarter!”

Actor Park Seo-ham, who recently completed service, added, “Rowoon will do great. He’ll come back more mature—and probably hotter too.”

A Drama, a Festival, and a Farewell

From the BIFF red carpet to farewell waves, Rowoon is closing this chapter with style. Fans can catch him in The Matchmakers starting September 26—and don’t worry, he’ll be back after his service, likely with more stories (and abs). Until then, we salute the king of smooth entries and even smoother exits.
