A Surprise Star in the Family
BoA might be the K-pop queen, but it was her older brother who stole a bit of the spotlight this time—by accident. On June 22, BoA took to her social media to share a clip of her brother, pianist Kwon Soon-phon, unexpectedly appearing on a news broadcast while biking in Busan.
“It’s Soon-phon, Not Soon-hon!”
In the shared video, Kwon was shown mid-interview during his casual cycling trip. The only hiccup? The chyron on screen mistakenly spelled his name as “Kwon Soon-hon.” Without missing a beat, Kwon corrected it during the broadcast: “It’s Kwon Soon-phon, actually.”
BoA couldn’t help chiming in herself, writing, “Yes, dear reporter. My older brother’s name is Kwon Soon-phon!’” Her mix of affection and exasperation gave fans a rare glimpse into their sibling dynamic—equal parts sweet and sassy.
Pianist, Professor—and Now Viral Star?
While BoA conquers the charts, her brother has built an impressive career in classical music. A graduate of Seoul National University’s esteemed piano program, Kwon is now an active pianist and also teaches as a professor at the Seoul Institute of the Arts. He’s even collaborated with BoA in the past—including on an orchestral version of her track “Tree.”
BoA’s Own Big Moment
The unintentional cameo comes as BoA celebrates a huge milestone. On August 4, the veteran idol dropped her 11th full album, “Crazier,” marking her 25-year journey since debuting in 2000. That’s right—BoA has been reigniting Hallyu before it was cool.
A Family That Performs Together
Fans loved the candid peek into BoA’s offstage life. While she’s all glitz and glam on stage, posts like these show a relatable, grounded side—yes, even she can’t escape a cringe family moment. One fan commented, “Even BoA has to deal with name typos. Stars—they’re just like us!”
Whether he’s behind the piano or unexpectedly trending online, Kwon Soon-phon proves talent runs in the family. And BoA’s reaction? Pure gold.
