K-pop’s Rising Stars Close Your Eyes Return with a Wintry Surprise
Close Your Eyes, the rookie boy group consisting of Jeon Minwook, Ma Jingxiang, Jang Yeojoon, Kim Sungmin, Song Seungho, Kenshin, and Seo Kyungbae, is back—this time bringing fans a clever concept of ‘Christmas in July.’
On July 9 at 6 PM KST, the group will release their second mini-album ‘Snowy Summer’ across major music platforms. The album mixes whimsical imagination with nostalgic warmth, all wrapped in K-pop flair.
‘Snowy Summer’: A Ghost Story with a Playful Heart
Far from the usual seasonal tunes, ‘Snowy Summer’ tells a quirky tale of boys-turned-ghosts as they navigate timeless space in search of freedom and fun. The title track, also named ‘Snowy Summer’, is a warm house-style pop R&B song. By contrasting the imagery of ‘summer’ and ‘snow,’ the group invites fans into a dreamlike world where imagination runs wild.
The music video takes an unconventional route. Inspired by the question, “How free would we be as ghosts?” it portrays the members as ghosts who miss White Christmas due to an unexpected event. But don’t expect horror—these spirits are all about joy and mischief, challenging the stereotype of gloomy, vengeful apparitions.
A Vibrant Tracklist Full of Colors and Emotions
This mini-album contains four diverse tracks. Alongside the title song is their second promoted track ‘Paint Candy’, inspired by the nostalgic, colorful candy of childhood. The song taps into “the blue of something new,” bringing a burst of youthful freshness.
Other songs include ‘ㅠ’, which tenderly captures the awkwardness of a one-sided crush on a friend, and ‘Bubble Tea in My Left Hand’, a sweet track that captures everyday excitement through the simple joy of a bubble tea run. From playful to tender, the album balances emotions like a carefully stirred cup of boba.
Record-Breaking Debut and Rising Momentum
Close Your Eyes made a powerful debut in March with their first mini-album ‘EternalT,’ selling over 310,000 copies in the first week. That figure ranks them 5th among all-time highest first-week sales for K-pop boy group debut albums. The title track ‘All My Poems and Novels Within’ quickly topped Korean music shows—grabbing first place on SBS M’s ‘The Show’ just six days after debut, and later on KBS2’s ‘Music Bank’ within nine days.
Back in Just 3 Months—with a New Double Title Attack
Returning only three months post-debut, the group is gearing up for diverse performances on music shows, promoting both ‘Snowy Summer’ and ‘Paint Candy.’ The K-pop world is taking note as global fans eagerly anticipate their summer fairytale comeback.
So get ready—this July, it’s not just the fan chants heating up. It’s snow…with a side of sunshine and a sprinkle of ghosts.
