Yuqi Opens Up About Her Tearful MV Scene
In the latest episode of “Miyeon’s Music Metro” on Miyeon’s YouTube channel Miyeonzip, (G)I-DLE’s Yuqi shared the emotional story behind her recent music video shoot—and it involves a surprise that had fans (and Yuqi) in tears.
A Surprise From Her Manager Brings Real Tears
Yuqi recently released her first solo single “Motivation”, featuring the hip-hop track “M.O.”. Determined to showcase her range—not just as an idol but as a performer—Yuqi took on acting in her music video. “NEVERLANDs [our fandom] really wanted to see me act, so I decided to give it a try,” she said.
But the scene that required her to cry on cue had Yuqi nervous. “I’ve never really acted before. I didn’t know if I could pull off the crying scene,” she admitted.
Enter her manager, who had a sneaky plan to help her hit those emotions. In a scene where she was supposed to read a blank sheet of paper, Yuqi instead found a handwritten letter from her mother. “My manager secretly asked my mom to write it a month ago, just in case I couldn’t cry,” Yuqi shared.
The Breakdown… Then the Breakthrough
“Once I read it, I bawled,” she laughed. “Not the pretty kind of crying either—ugly sobbing.” That raw footage didn’t make the final cut, but it helped her tap into genuine emotion. “Thanks to the letter, I gathered myself again and filmed a version where I could cry beautifully. My manager was like, ‘Yep, nailed it.’”
“M.O.” Brings the Heat, Yuqi Brings the Feels
The title track “M.O.” blends old-school boom bap with fresh confidence. Its message? Yuqi doesn’t follow rules or attention—she follows her gut. Alongside it, the single also includes “It Hurt” in both Korean and Chinese versions, highlighting her multilingual reach.
Teaming up with Miyeon for a duet on the show, fans were treated to a sweet break from hip-hop swagger with a cozy vocal moment. Miyeon teased, “At our 6th stop on the Music Metro, our superstar Yuqi boarded with sweet duets and fierce rap vibes—you don’t wanna miss this playlist.”
What’s Next for Yuqi?
Between stealing hearts with tearful acting and dropping confident bars in “M.O.,” Yuqi’s proving she’s more than just the group’s playful prankster. This solo era is giving main character energy—and fans are along for every dramatic, music-filled ride.
