Four K-pop Power Vocalists Reinterpret a Beloved Classic
Donuts Culture has officially kicked off its global remake project, releasing a new version of the emotional ballad ‘Old Song’ today (May 29) at 6 PM KST. This first remake features four of K-pop’s standout main vocalists: KEN (VIXX), YOUNGJAE (GOT7), HUI (Pentagon), and Choi Sangyeop (LUCY). Each brings distinct charisma and vocal color to the reimagined ballad.
A Mission to Connect Cultures Through Music
Donuts Culture’s project aims to breathe new life into beloved Korean tracks by unveiling them to global audiences. By remixing and reinterpreting familiar songs with collaboration from diverse artists, the initiative fosters both emotional and cultural crossovers between Korea and the world.
From Indie Charm to K-pop Synergy
For its first installment, the team selected a timeless hit by indie group Standing Egg. Known for its gentle melody and heartfelt lyrics, ‘Old Song’ has held a special place in fans’ hearts and was previously revived by K-pop vocalists on SBS’s music show ‘The Listen: The Time We Spent Together’.
This 2024 remake ventures into new sonic territory. Retaining the original’s acoustic vibe, the new version infuses J-pop-inspired orchestration—complete with dynamic guitar riffs and emotional string arrangements. The result? A fresh yet nostalgic longing that transcends borders.
Main Vocalists Take Center Stage
The project spotlights four distinctive voices. KEN of VIXX captivates with his rich, resonant tone; GOT7’s YOUNGJAE offers smooth and stylish vocals; HUI of Pentagon infuses delicate emotional control; while LUCY’s Choi Sangyeop powers through with his unique voice and strong vocal projection. Together, they weave their differences into a stunning harmony.
A Cinematic Music Video with Dual Stories
Released alongside the track is a beautifully shot music video set in Yamanashi, Japan. It follows the intimate moments of a love story: shared earphones, sleepy shoulder naps, nostalgic bike rides, and the bittersweet surprise of reconnection years later.
Adding a unique touch, a second cinematic music video doubles as a collaboration with the Japanese romance film ‘366 Days’. Directed by Takahiko Shinjo (known for ‘Heavenly Forest’), and starring Eiji Akaso and Moeka Kamishiraishi, the video interweaves the film’s emotional visuals with the song’s lyrical melancholy, enhancing the narrative of love and time.
A Global Music Start with Heart
With the release of ‘Old Song’, Donuts Culture signals its commitment to sharing the universal language of music. And with four powerhouse idols leading the way, this track might just find a new home in record charts far beyond Korea.
‘Old Song’ is now available on all major music platforms worldwide.
