Kep1er Tries Self-Produced Content—and It’s Surprisingly Hilarious
K-pop girl group Kep1er (members: Choi Yujin, Xiaoting, Kim Chaehyun, Kim Dayeon, Hikaru, Huening Bahiyyih, and Seo Youngeun) has just dropped their very first variety-style original content, and fans are loving every offbeat second of it.
On July 17 and 24, Kep1er released a two-part YouTube show titled ‘Don’t Be Dumb!’ to promote their new mini-album, Bubble Gum. Sharing its name with the album’s B-side track, the content is packed with improv comedy, chaotic skits, and member-on-member roasts that prove Kep1er has serious variety show potential.
Drama Queens Turn Comedy Pros
Set up like a counseling center, the show stars Kim Dayeon as the no-nonsense ‘CEO’ and Hikaru as her hilarious sidekick ‘employee.’ Each episode features fellow members dropping by as ‘clients’ to spill their very real—but very funny—K-pop struggles.
In episode one, Choi Yujin admits she can’t stop craving midnight snacks just before their comeback, while Huening Bahiyyih sighs about giggling in dance class every time she makes eye contact. Later on, Kim Chaehyun vents about Dayeon’s obsession with short-form content (hello TikTok moments!), and Xiaoting complains she’s barely sleeping due to a packed schedule. Relatable, right?
Fans Are Loving the Chaos
What makes it work? The skits are loose, the ad-libs land, and the chemistry is off the charts. Viewers couldn’t get enough of Dayeon and Hikaru’s synchronized banter and problem-solving that made absolutely no medical sense—but tons of comedic value.
Global fans responded in multitudes of languages, dropping comments like: “This is the weirdest clinic ever—and I love it,” “Dayeon and Hikaru are a sitcom duo,” and “Petition for this to become a full YouTube series!”
‘Bubble Gum’ Comeback Is Just Getting Started
‘Don’t Be Dumb!’ isn’t Kep1er’s only treat for fans lately. On the heels of this content drop, their 7th mini-album ‘Bubble Gum’ hit digital platforms on the 19th, drawing major buzz with its sugary visuals and playful concept. They’ve just wrapped up their first-week music show performances and are slated to kick off a solo concert and tour starting in September.
As Kep1er mixes more authentic content like this into their promo cycle, the group’s ability to connect with fans—onstage and off—is proving to be as refreshing as a cold soda on a Korean summer day.
