Kiya’s Soulful Spotlight: K-pop Rookie Delivers Vocal Fireworks
A dream gig, a bucket list moment
For Kiya of rookie girl group KiiiKiii, stepping onto the set of ‘Limousine Service’ wasn’t just a regular interview—it was manifesting a debut-era wish. The young artist appeared on KBS Kpop’s popular YouTube series on June 12 and showcased far more than just her singing chops.
‘DANCING ALONE’ reimagined—with heart
Opening with a stripped-down version of KiiiKiii’s latest track ‘DANCING ALONE’ (released June 6), Kiya brought a sultry, low-register twist that gave the song a whole new emotional texture. Her alternate take on the upbeat K-pop single surprised fans and instantly set the tone for the episode.
2NE1, Lady Gaga, and a sprinkle of nostalgia
“This was always the content I looked forward to doing since before debut,” Kiya said, chatting with host and fellow artist Limujin. She brought a personal touch to every song she performed—like the stage-shattering rendition of 2NE1’s ‘Come Back Home.’ Kiya explained she had briefly sung it during a radio show, and fans (affectionately dubbed Tiki) had loved it so much, she wanted to present a full version this time.
Next up: a goosebump-inducing cover of Lady Gaga’s ‘Million Reasons.’ “We usually do fun, high-energy group tracks, but I wanted to show a calmer, more emotional side,” she said. Her powerful high notes and heartfelt delivery earned thunderous virtual applause.
Getting personal with her journey
One of the night’s most touching moments came when Kiya covered Limujin’s own track ‘Assignment Song (Professor, I’m Sorry)’—a melancholic ballad about student burnout. “I once practiced this alone to express emotion,” she shared before performing it with raw passion—and even a bit of acting flair. The original singer was left visibly moved.
When asked about her motivation to become a singer, Kiya gave a heartfelt answer: “I wanted to be someone who gives people comfort and joy. At some point, music became that comfort for me, so I naturally began to pursue it.” Her goal now? Songs that spark memories and heal listeners.
One more duet, one more dream fulfilled
To wrap things up, Kiya teamed up with Limujin for a smoky, vocally complex duet of Wonder Girls’ ‘Why So Lonely.’ Effortlessly gliding between low tones and soaring highs, her vocals packed both polish and depth—capping off a flawless appearance.
“Today’s episode was a literal bucket list check,” she smiled. “Even my members said they were proud.”
What’s next for KiiiKiii?
With their first digital single ‘DANCING ALONE’ out now and Kiya blazing a path with her individual talents, KiiiKiii is shaping up to be more than just another fourth-gen group. Keep your eye on this multidimensional rookie—they’re not just dancing alone anymore.
