From K-pop Star to ‘Art-tainer’
Minhyuk of MONSTA X is lending more than just his voice to fans—this time, he’s guiding them through art history. In an unexpected cross between pop culture and fine arts, Minhyuk is participating as the featured audio guide for the Suwon Museum of Art’s 10th anniversary exhibition, “Frozen Moments, Flowing Emotions.”
What’s the Exhibition About?
Running from September 26, 2024, to January 11, 2026, the exhibit brings together modern and contemporary masterpieces by Korean art legends like Na Hye-seok, Park Soo-keun, and Chun Kyung-ja. Visitors scan a QR code on-site to listen to Minhyuk’s commentary in real time. That’s right—you’ll hear his soothing voice guiding you through brushstrokes and backstories.
Minhyuk’s Artistic Side Isn’t New
Minhyuk has been quietly building a reputation as an “art-tainer” (art + entertainer) for years. Beyond painting and calligraphy, he’s customized stage outfits and props and showcased live art on his Naver NOW show “Vogueshipshow” for nearly two years. If that weren’t enough, he also co-hosted a pop-up art exhibition in 2023 with street artist Doezny and Mountain Dew.
An Artistic Comeback After Military Service
Since completing his mandatory military service, Minhyuk hasn’t skipped a beat. He took part in K-EXPO France 2024, where he held an art talk featuring his own paintings. Clearly, his brushstrokes are just as compelling as his vocals.
Minhyuk’s Statement
“I’m honored to be part of this meaningful exhibition,” Minhyuk said through his agency, Starship Entertainment. “Being able to share Korea’s modern and contemporary artworks through my voice—especially as the museum celebrates its 10th anniversary—is a privilege.”
From Canvas to Comeback
This cultural project comes hot on the heels of MONSTA X’s return as a full unit with their 10th anniversary mini-album, “THE X.” After five years without all members promoting together, fans were thrilled to see the group whole again. Art gallery by day, comeback stage by night—Minhyuk’s versatility is the real exhibit.
Art Meets Idol: What’s Next?
With more K-pop idols exploring fine arts and fashion, Minhyuk’s latest move positions him at the forefront of this multi-disciplinary trend. Could we be entering the era of the aesthetic idol? Stay tuned—Minhyuk might just paint the way forward.
