Jung Wooyoung Steps Down for Health and Personal Reasons

After more than two decades of rocking Korea’s underground and mainstream stages, bassist Jung Wooyoung is officially parting ways with legendary punk rock band No Brain. The band made the announcement on September 30 through their official social media, citing health issues and personal circumstances as the reason behind his departure.

No Brain’s Message to Fans

“It’s with heavy hearts that we share this news,” read No Brain’s statement. “We deeply appreciate Jung Wooyoung’s huge contribution over the years. We fully support his next chapter and wish him a speedy recovery.” They also confirmed that their upcoming performances will continue with session musicians filling in.

One of Korea’s Most Storied Rock Bands

Formed in 1997, No Brain helped shape the face of South Korea’s punk rock and indie scene. From breakout tracks like “You Have a Crush on Me” to the chaotic energy of “Speed Up Losers”, the band’s rebellious sound earned them a loyal fan base and mainstream recognition over the years.

This isn’t the first member change in 2023. Earlier this year, guitarist Jung Minjoon also left the group.

What’s Next for No Brain?

While bidding farewell to Jung Wooyoung is an emotional moment for fans and bandmates alike, No Brain seems committed to carrying on. Their message ended with heartfelt gratitude and a promise to continue performing: “We apologize for the sudden news and thank everyone for your understanding.”

A Legacy That Lives On

No Brain has weathered many storms since their debut, always emerging louder and stronger. With a shake-up in the lineup and fans cheering from the sidelines, this next chapter might just be their rawest yet. Will this iconic band evolve or go back to their gritty roots? Only time—and a few decibels—will tell.
