SEVENTEEN Duo’s Debut Album Skyrockets to No.1 in Japan
S.COUPS and Mingyu, the dynamic duo from K-pop powerhouse SEVENTEEN, have dropped their first unit album—and the hype is very real. Released on September 29, ‘HYPE VIBES’ instantly captured the No.1 spot on Japan’s Oricon Weekly Album Chart with an impressive 103,000 copies sold in its first week.
Breaking Records at Home and Beyond
The success doesn’t stop in Japan. According to Korea’s HANTEO Chart, the mini album sold a jaw-dropping 887,581 copies during its first week (Sept 29–Oct 5), placing it at No.1 and setting a new record for the highest first-week sales for any K-pop unit album in history.
Over in China, the response was just as explosive. On QQ Music, the album topped the daily and weekly Digital Best-Selling EP charts. It also earned the platform’s Triple Gold certification, awarded when sales hit 750,000 yuan (roughly 100,000 USD).
‘HYPE VIBES’: A Celebration of Freedom and Connection
So what’s all the fuss about? ‘HYPE VIBES’ lives up to its name, capturing an energetic, no-rules attitude that invites listeners to just vibe out and be themselves. The album reflects S.COUPS and Mingyu’s desire to connect authentically with fans—on their own terms.
Throwback Meets New School with “5, 4, 3 (Pretty Woman)”
The lead single, “5, 4, 3 (Pretty Woman)” featuring Lay Bankz, offers a slick interpolation of Roy Orbison’s classic “Oh, Pretty Woman.” Remixing nostalgia with modern disco beats, the song delivers a cheeky confession of love with toe-tapping flair.
Both members contributed to writing and composing all six tracks on the mini album. Yep—every lyric, every chord has their personal stamp. As Mingyu put it in a fan Q&A: “We wanted this to sound like us—loud, fun, and a little unpredictable.”
K-pop Units Are Entering a New Era
With this release, SEVENTEEN isn’t just expanding its musical universe; it’s helping redefine what K-pop units can do. If early numbers are any sign, ‘HYPE VIBES’ might be the template for future collaborations across idols.
Who knew two members could bring this much energy? If you haven’t hit play on ‘HYPE VIBES’ yet, your playlist might be missing 2025’s brightest surprise.
Stream it. Dance to it. Scream “5, 4, 3” in your room—no judgment here.
