Soobin Successfully Kicks Off Her First Musical Role
[CBC News] WJSN’s Soobin (real name Park Soobin) dazzled audiences during the premiere of the musical Burn the Witch, held on June 8 at Hongik University Daehangno Art Center’s small theater in Seoul.
A Bold Transformation On Stage
Showcasing her pristine vocals and convincing emotional range, Soobin captivated the crowd with a strong performance that marked a striking departure from her previous roles in musicals.
Reflecting on her debut, Soobin shared through her agency Starship Entertainment, “This character is very different from the ones I’ve played before, so I was both nervous and excited. I’m grateful that many people resonated with the performance. I’ll keep working hard to deliver heartfelt acting and singing.”
A Tale of Fame and Fear
Burn the Witch is a black comedy that explores themes of witch trials and stardom. The story follows ‘Love,’ a top celebrity who undergoes a life-altering transformation after an encounter with a mysterious witch named Mama. Soobin plays Love, a figure adored by the public but also relentlessly targeted by them—ushering her into a storm of internal conflict and awakening.
Emotional Depth and Powerful Delivery
During the premiere, Soobin’s clear and soft tone immediately drew the audience in. As the emotions of her complex character unfolded, she convincingly conveyed confusion, vulnerability, and strength, adding eerie tension and surreal charm to the stage.
Viewers were particularly moved by her portrayal of Love’s hidden pain and healing journey, with Soobin’s nuanced delivery elevating the immersive power of the show to new heights.
An Actress to Watch in Musical Theater
Soobin first stepped into musical theater with Aloha, My Mothers in July 2023 and drew further praise in the following year with her role as Natasha in The Great Comet. With Burn the Witch, her transformation as a theater actress continues to inspire curiosity and anticipation for future roles.
Running Through October
Burn the Witch is scheduled to run until October 12 at the Hongik University Daehangno Art Center’s small theater. Theatergoers still have plenty of time to witness Soobin’s remarkable stage presence and the gripping story come to life.
