A sparkling reunion brewed in nostalgia and long-lost dreams

K-pop sweetheart Hyeri and rising actor Hwang Inyeop are set to share the screen in ‘Dreaming of You’, a romantic comedy premiering in 2026 on Genie TV and ENA. Think unresolved love, abandoned dreams, and a not-so-coincidental reunion. Yep, it’s basically tailor-made for fans who love a good ‘first love comes back hotter’ plot twist.

What’s the story?

Hwang Inyeop plays Woo Subin, a genius film director who rocked international film festivals with his debut. Now he’s back in Korea—not just for his career, but to find the woman who inspired his dreams. Enter Joo Ijae, played by Hyeri—once a fearless teenager chasing dreams, now a household-name lifestyle reporter with a megawatt smile and serious Seoul-to-Busan hustle.

They were once ambitious 19-year-olds dreaming of making films together. But then Woo Subin vanished, and Ijae’s big-screen dreams crumbled. The drama picks up as these two cross paths again, sparking a journey to rewrite not just a movie, but the ending they never had.

Meet the dream team

Directing the series is Yoo Seondong of The Uncanny Counter and Bad and Crazy fame—so expect slick visuals with plenty of emotional punch. The script comes from Jeong Eunbi, whose credits include Goblin, Mr. Sunshine, and Doom at Your Service. That’s basically a certified hitmaker dream combo right there.

New roles, new energy

“I’m thrilled to show a totally new side of myself through Woo Subin,” shared Hwang Inyeop. “I think viewers will enjoy the chemistry between me and Hyeri—we’re both bringing our A-game.”

Hyeri, making a long-awaited comeback to rom-com territory, said, “Ijae is complex—strong, funny, but also carrying hidden scars. I’m excited to dig into this character.”

Why this pairing is already creating buzz

This isn’t just a casting announcement—it’s fueling serious fan hype. Hyeri, known for her bright screen presence and iconic role in Reply 1988, returns after branching out into more mature roles. Meanwhile, Hwang Inyeop continues riding high after standout performances in True Beauty and Why Her.

Throw in a nostalgic love story, a little industry glam, and emotional second chances… and you’ve got a recipe for a global Hallyu hit waiting to happen.

Mark your calendars (and your emotional timelines)

Dreaming of You’ drops in 2026 on ENA and Genie TV VOD. It might be a long wait, but judging by the talent lineup, emotional depth, and star chemistry, it’ll be worth every second.

So, are second chances just for dramas—or is it the ultimate K-romance fantasy come true?
