Yes, That Lee Youngae Is Suited Up and Throwing Punches

Korean screen icon Lee Youngae just proved age is no barrier to badassery. At a press conference held on the 16th at D-CUBE CITY’s The Saint Hall in Seoul, she revealed how she hit the gym hard to prep for her role in the upcoming K-drama A Wonderful Day for Unsu.

A Quiet Housewife Pulled into a Dark World

Lee plays Kang Unsu, an ordinary mom whose life takes a 180 when she stumbles into a drug case—and not just figuratively. Her character transitions from apron to adrenaline, becoming entangled in a dangerous world with a mysterious teacher, played by Kim Youngkwang.

“As the action scenes progressed, I found myself sinking deeper into Unsu’s emotions,” Lee shared. “I did plenty of strength training—even at home—so I could appear more powerful and charismatic on screen.”

Director’s Praise: ‘She’s More Than Just Graceful’

Director Son Hyunwook couldn’t hide his admiration. “It’s amazing how much effort she put into every detail of the action choreography,” he said. “At her age, not many would take on such a physical challenge—and excel.”

He added that her serene image was perfect for portraying Unsu’s initial innocence, making her transformation even more gripping.

Electric Chemistry On Set

Co-star Park Youngwoo also chimed in, praising the energy on set: “Watching Lee Youngae and Kim Youngkwang work together was inspiring. That rare spark between actors? We had it.”

Final Take

If you’ve only known Lee Youngae from quiet period dramas, get ready for a flashy reboot. Now the question is: how many dumbbells do we need to lift to look that cool dodging bullets?
