A K-Drama That Took Fantasy to Fierce New Heights
The KBS fantasy-action series “TWELVE” has officially bowed out, and it went out swinging—literally. Blending East Asian folklore with superhero tropes, the series brought its final eighth episode to a fever pitch of celestial action, ending on a high (and slightly heartbreaking) note.
Angels, Zodiac Powers, and the Fight for Humanity
Set in a world where twelve celestial beings—each inspired by the East Asian zodiac—take on dark forces to protect humanity, “TWELVE” quickly became a cult favorite. The final episode launched straight into its most intense battle yet: the heroes versus villain Samin, played by Kim Changhyun.
In the last stand, Ma Dongseok’s character Tesan faced off against Samin while Seo In Guk’s Wonsun and the rest of the angel crew—Donnie (Go Gyupil), Ganji (ex-gugudan’s Mina), Jidorul (Song Yuvin), Marzuk (Ahn Jihae), and Bangul (Regina Lei)—took on corrupted former allies turned enemies.
High Stakes, Heavenly Hits, and a Bittersweet Goodbye
Outnumbered and overwhelmed, Tesan was brought down—but not for long. Enter Ogwi (Park Hyungshik), rising like a phoenix and reigniting the aerial warfare with Samin. In the heat of battle, Ogwi took a hit while rescuing Tesan, leading to an emotional turning point. Fueled by rage, Tesan lit up his fists in glowing blue fire and delivered a final blow that obliterated Samin.
Meanwhile, Mill (Lee Jubin), finally retrieved the dragon spirit, mourning Ogwi’s still form in one of the drama’s most poignant moments. The remaining angels subdued their fallen comrades and rushed to the final battle, only to be met with sadness and lingering questions.
Happy Ending with a Hint of Mystery
In a satisfyingly dramatic wrap-up, the angels sealed the gates of hell and restored light to the world. The four once-corrupted angels awoke from their dark trance and reunited with the team in an emotional reunion thousands of years in the making. Life returned to a peaceful rhythm as they adapted to modern-day Earth, with Ye Soojung’s character, Gumsun, also rejoining them after recovery.
But just when you thought it was all sunshine and halos, a mysterious figure appeared before Tesan and Mill, teasing a possible continuation—or a new threat waiting in the wings.
‘TWELVE’ Dominated Ratings and Hearts Worldwide
“TWELVE” didn’t just win in storytelling. It pulled in an impressive 8.1% viewership on KBS during its premiere, topping its time slot. The series also soared to No.1 on Disney+ Korea’s daily Top 10 and nabbed No.2 globally in Disney+’s TV show rankings, proving its wide-reaching Hallyu power.
